The constituency receives between 700mm and 1500mm of rainfall annually. It has two rainy seasons; MarchApril-May (long rains) and November (short rains). Although rain comes as blessings, it can also be noted that it causes huge damages on road networks as well as destruction of farms and farm produce.

1.4 Economic Activities

Agriculture is the backbone of OlJoro-Orok Constituency economy, this is due to fertile soils and favourable climate. The constituency and the county at large is considered the bread basket of Kenya because of its high production of potatoes, cabbages, maize and beans that are sold in Nairobi and other major towns inthe country. Other crops that flourish in OlJoro-Orok Constituency include carrots, kales, tomatoes and peas. Small-scale farmers are yet to make entry into the sub-sector due to the high costs associated with horticulture. Livestock rearing is also a major economic activity in OlJoro-Orok Constituency. Farmers in the constituency engage in dairy farming, sheep rearing, beef production as well as poultry. These products are sold to traders from Nairobi and other neighbouring towns.

1.5 Health Facilities

OlJoro-Orok Constituency has numerous healthcare facilities serving the residents. Notable in the Constituency include Chamuka and Ngano Health Center among others. 1.6 Education The constituency hosts 49 primary schools and 23 high schools. Some of the high schools in OlJoro- Orok Constituency include Kisima Mixed Secondary school, Kangui Boys High School, Gatimu Secondary School among others. Although Oljoro-Orok Constituency has no university, it has several vocational training centers though that include the Nyandarua National Polytechnic, Kangui Vocational center and AHITI Nyahururu.

With the ever-escalating rate of population growth, expansion and rehabilitation of dilapidated existing facilities is therefore a necessity.

1.7 Transport Infrastructures

The major communication line serving Oljoro-Orok constituency is Gilgil – Nyahururu road and through the newly constructed Nakuru- Dundori - Oljoro-Orok road. This serves as the main means of communication of people and goods to and from the constituency. In addition, there exists a number of other connector and feeder roads that are in a fair and good condition.

Given the nature of economic activities which is basically agricultural (potatoes, cabbage, and dairy farming) the hope of people in this constituency is pegged on good transport network given the high perishability of the commodities.

1.8 Water Resource

There are several water reservoirs (dams) within the constituency serving the residents. These include Nyairoko and Tala Sigh dams. There exist numerous rivers that provide water resources to the residents, these include: Gichaka, Shimba, Nyairoko and Chamuka among others. Given the uneven distribution of the population and the rough terrain, there is a big impediment to the provisions of equity in distribution of this scarce but important resource which the strategic plan seeks to solve.
