Topic Outline, Purposes, and Objectives of Study

      The article addresses the alignment of sustainable development with the 2030 global agenda, particularly focusing on sustainability reporting and environmental regulations, and their impact on the performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Kenya. The study aims to review empirical and theoretical literature on sustainable development perspectives related to Kenyan SMEs, guided by these objectives:

1. Assess the concept of sustainability in the Kenyan Business Environment Network.
   
2. Determine the necessity of sustainability in the Kenyan Business Environment.
   
3. Explain how sustainability affects the Business Environment in Kenya.
   

Understanding the Objectives

      SMEs play a significant role in global wealth, innovation, job creation, poverty alleviation, and income generation. However, their contribution to sustainable economic development varies due to their diverse nature and operational contexts. Different countries pursue sustainability differently despite the shared goal of the United Nations' Sustainable Development blueprint. Understanding sustainability in the Kenyan context is crucial for the country's progress towards these global goals. The business sector, especially SMEs, is pivotal in managing global and environmental resources and promoting sustainable growth. Analyzing the necessity and impact of sustainability in Kenya's business environment will inform future policies and regulations.

Conceptual Framework

      The theoretical framework proposed in the study highlights the role of environmental regulations and sustainability reporting in the relationship between sustainable development goals and SMEs in Kenya. This framework will guide the study, emphasizing key concepts essential for understanding the impact and necessity of sustainability in the Kenyan business environment.
